What is DigitaKids?
DigitaKids is an educational typing game (touch typing) for children. A letter or word appears on screen; the virtual keyboard lights the correct key and hand guides show which finger to use — a feature called Finger Mapping.
There are about 173 levels, from the home row through the alphabet, letter pairs, words, capitals, punctuation, numbers, accents, short phrases, and a final phrase, plus educational pictures, scoring, a local ranking, and WPM (words per minute). The official site is digitakids.com.
What is touch typing?
Touch typing means typing without looking at the keyboard, keeping fingers on the home row (ASDF / JKL) and using the correct finger for each key. DigitaKids teaches this with immediate visual feedback instead of hunt-and-peck.
Who is it for?
For learners building correct-finger typing: from the home row and alphabet to words and school text. Useful at home and in the computer lab (online or offline). Beginners can play with an adult nearby. Explorers stop at short words; Champions skip the home row and the alphabet — the menu offers an optional home-row warm-up. On Adventurers and Champions, the menu has School practice: school words and no little pictures — the profile you chose stays the same. The menu also has an optional test of technique and rhythm (skippable; not a scientific assessment). In a shared lab, check that the session is theirs and use I'm someone else in the menu if you need to clear the identity.
Do I need the internet?
Online play needs a connection (at least on first load). The offline Windows app works without internet after install — useful at home and in school computer labs.
Is it free? Ads or subscription?

How can I donate or support DigitaKids?

Does it work on phones or tablets?
Not on its own. DigitaKids needs a physical keyboard: the on-screen keyboard is the finger guide, not a typing field. On a tablet, use a Bluetooth keyboard (or USB). Without a physical keyboard, the game opens but the child cannot type anything.
What is Finger Mapping?
Finger Mapping links each key to the correct finger visually. When the next letter appears, DigitaKids highlights the key and the finger on SVG hands — the core teaching feature of the product.
Is it suitable for schools?

Windows said the app is unrecognized. Is it safe?
Yes — if you downloaded the installer from digitakids.com/en/download/. The Microsoft Defender SmartScreen message (“Windows protected your PC”) appears because DigitaKids does not yet have a code-signing certificate; it does not mean the file is malware. Click More info, then Run anyway. If unsure, check the site URL or email digitakids@digitakids.com.
How is progress saved?
Progress and the local Top 5 stay on the device — including the Windows app without internet. No account is required. A nickname and country already go on the world ranking (World/Country/Class need a network); an account is optional for history and class.
